Bruce Mulcahy

Bruce was born in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, and became keen on painting at an early age. He gained a degree in Fine Art at Newcastle University, graduating in 1978, and shortly afterwards began painting full time.

Whilst at Newcastle he began to paint on the spot using oil, gouache or occasionally acrylic and this is still how he prefers to work, despite the practical difficulties of painting outdoors – coping with the weather, for example. He prefers to put up with those difficulties in order to be able to react directly to the colours, light and textures of the actual place on a particular day.

His work has been shown in galleries around the country including Manchester Academy, Leeds City Art Gallery, Staithes Gallery and many times at The Mall Galleries, London, particularly with The Royal Society of Marine Artists and in the National Exhibitions of the Singer/Friedlander Watercolour Competition and the Laing Art Competition.

Bruce gives painting demonstrations and workshops, has been a guest demonstrator at the Patchings Art Festival several times, and for many years has held weekly painting classes in Batley, West Yorkshire.

His paintings are in many private collections in the UK and in 14 other countries to date.

Teaching / Educational Experience:- Painting demonstrations to Art Societies since 1994. Painting workshops (one or two days0 since 2001. Tuition to small groups in Studio / Gallery since 2000. Free Public Painting Workshop, Huddersfield Art gallery, October 2003. Sessions working with pupils at Brownhill Infants School, Batley.

Other Information. Work is held in many private UK Collections and currently in 14 other countries: - Ireland, France, Holland, Germany, Poland, Finland, Norway, Italy, Canada, USA, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand and Japan. Entry in ‘Who’s Who in Art’ 31st Edition 2004.
